Continuing on, we enter the town of Pasanauri and the Pasanauri river, known for its river activities and rafting, and carry on to the town of Gudauri, famous for the highest peaks of the Caucasus, on the Georgian–Russian border. The scene there is beyond describing or imagining, with the clouds embracing the Caucasus peaks. About Georgia

Tbilisi is carved into a river gorge under a hilltop fortress: carved wooden balconies, brick sulphur bathhouses, and a food and wine culture that predates most of Europe. The Greater Caucasus begins three hours north.

  • Capital: Tbilisi
  • Official language: Georgian
  • Currency: Georgian lari (GEL)
  • Time zone: UTC+4
  • Best season: May to June, September to October
  • The name Tbilisi means "warm place", after the sulphur springs the city grew around.
  • Georgians have been making wine in buried clay qvevri for roughly 8,000 years — the oldest winemaking tradition known.
